Meanwhile, Messi's long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo is not even in top 3 after the much-hyped transfer to Manchester United. According to reports, the Portuguese accepted a pay cut to reunite with Red Devils and will now receive £480,000-per-week.
The third-biggest earner is Barca legend Andres Iniesta who currently ploughs his trade in Japan.
