Neymar aims at beating Pele's historic goalscoring record same day Leo Messi breaks it

"I'm very happy to be the top scorer in the qualifiers, to be the best passer with the Brazil jersey and soon, if everything goes well, to overtake Pele," Neymar has said, as quoted by Le10Sport.

"I don't know what I have to do with this jersey anymore so that people respect Neymar."

In the latest match against Peru, the Paris Saint-Germain forward scored his 69th goal for Brazil. He is just eight goals behind Pele's all-time record for Selecao.

With 77 goals, Pele had been the best international goalscorer in South America up until September 10 when Leo Messi overtook him. Thanks to the Argentine's hat-trick against Bolivia, he has now got 79 goals to his name.
