Marca: Lopetegui pushed for signing Nacho for Sevilla

Marca report that Nacho Fernandez was wanted by Julen Lopetegui at Sevilla. The defender and the manager have been known to have a great professional relationship and the ex-Madrid boss would like to have the Spaniard in his squad.

According to the source, the talks between Real Madrid and Sevilla were quite advanced and our club were allegedly open to letting the defender leave. However, Nacho was adamant in his desire to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and instantly refused the transfer.

The defender is in his 19th season at the Casa Blanca with 190 appearances and 15 trophies to his name. The Spaniard has been at Real Madrid longer than Sergio RamosMarcelo and Karim Benzema and was involved in many of our important victories.

Fernandez is a unique player in the current squad. Out of all the players in our team, only Nacho has never wore any other team's shirt. The defender started his professional career at the Bernabeu and it looks like he intends to end it there. Only three footballers have done that - Santiago Bernabeu (1911-1927), Chendo (1982-1988) and Sanchis (1983-2001).
