Nacho Fernandez was speaking about the situation regarding James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale and the controversy surrounding their call-ups to the national teams. The veteran defender backs both players to perform well and has no problem with their decisions.
"I won't doubt the professionalism of two players who have always given everything while wearing our shirt. If they've gone away with their national teams then it's because they're now able to play. We hope they don't get injured with their national teams and that they're 100 per cent fit when back with us," said Nacho.
The Spaniard also spoke in support of the winger and pointed to the neverending media hunt on the Welshman: "Gareth is a strong person and it seems he'll be criticised by the press no matter what he does.
"You have to be very strong mentally in his situation. I'm not sure if he's being unfairly treated, but it seems he's always under the microscope no matter what. He has the support of his teammates and the coaching staff. I hope he has good matches with his country now and that he returns feeling at his best," added Nacho.
