Nacho provides update on recovery process: 'Everything is going as planned'

Nacho Fernandez has spoken about his recovery process on Thursday. The veteran player had to be taken off the pitch during the 2-2 draw against Brugge in the Champions League. The unfortunate knee injury ruled the defender for more than a month of playing.

"I'm really happy with how the recovery is going. The process is going as it should. I can't say an exact date for a return, but I think I'll be able to train with the group again in the next week. I'm onto the final stretch," happily answered Nacho.

Though the Spaniard declined every outgoing offer this summer [and there were quite a lot of deals on the table], he knows that his role at the team is not at all critical.

Fernandez is behind RamosVarane and Militao in terms of picking the starting line-up but that doesn't bother the defender. Nacho wants to play his part and help the club in times when a qualified substitute is needed.

According to previous reports, the talks between Real Madrid and Sevilla were quite advanced and our club were allegedly open to letting the defender leave. However, Nacho was adamant in his desire to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and instantly refused the transfer.

The defender is in his 19th season at the Casa Blanca with 193 appearances and 15 trophies to his name. The Spaniard has been at Real Madrid longer than Ramos, Marcelo and Karim Benzema and was involved in many of our important victories.
