'He wants to take a big step': Bayer Leverkusen CEO opens door to Kai Havertz exit amid Real Madrid links

Bayern Leverkusen would like to keep Kai Havertz beyond the summer but the club won't prevent the Germany international from leaving as he's eager to take his next career step, Fernando Carro has claimed.

"Kai has been with us for ten years, he is a player who is fully integrated and devoted to the club, but he wants to take a big step," Leverkusen's CEO told Infobae.

"All the great clubs in Europe are after him and for us, in the end, what the player wants is what is important.

"We would of course like him to keep playing here. He is a very disciplined person with an old head on young shoulders. We are open to see what will happen in the future, nobody knows.

"At the moment he is focussed on the season with us. He has been injured the last two games but we hope to have him for the last few fixtures."

Earlier this month, Bayer's sporting director also confirmed the interest of 'all the great clubs from Germany and Europe' in the 21-year-old. Real Madrid are believed to be among them.

The Whites, however, will have to withstand the competition from Barcelona, Man United, Bayern Munich, Newcastle and Chelsea for Havertz, as per reports in Germany.

For now, one thing is clear - Leverkusen want at least €100m for their prized asset.
