Is draw a fair result in Real Madrid v Sevilla?

Real Madrid settled at a 1-1 draw with Sevilla on Saturday. But was it a fair result?

Well, let's get into it.

The game started with an early goal from Fede Valverde that was disallowed due to an offside call. Minutes later, Jude Bellingham slotted it home past Sevilla keeper but his goal was also called off after quite a controversial decision from the referee.

The Andalusian's only goal of the night came from a mistake by David Alaba, but they had plenty of chances of their own. Dani Carvajal's key goal-line clearance and a couple of big saves from Kepa Arrizabalaga prevented the home side from converting those.

As per xG Philosophy, Real Madrid's xG (expected goals) stands at 2.25 while Sevilla's stood at 1.57, suggesting that a 2-1 Madrid victory would have been 'the fairest' outcome.

But football's not played on paper and anything can happen, no matter what stats suggest, so Ancelotti's men will have to move on and start preparations for the next game.
