How many international goals Messi and Aguero participated in together? Stat review

Leo Messi and Sergio Aguero have participated in 17 goals together as part of Argentina and Argentina U20 squads.

9 of Aguero's goals were assisted by Leo Messi, 8 of Messi's goals were assisted by Sergio Aguero.

The duo have been flourishing lately: since 2018 alone, the two players participated in 5 goals together, including the strikes against France (2018 World Cup last 16) and Chile (2020 Copa America third-place playoff).

Interestingly, the two players have played together for Argentina since 2005 when they won the U20 World Championships. Messi's and Aguero's superb individual performances helped them beat Nigeria 2-1 in the final.

Messi and Aguero are now expected to tag up at Barcelona next season, with the Catalans having officially announced Sergio's arrival. As for Leo, his contract is set to expire on June 30, but Joan Laporta is positive about the player extending his deal.

3 ways Barcelona could line up with proper no.9 Aguero

Barcelona have officially announced the arrival of Sergio Aguero on a free transfer. With an out-and-out striker in the squad, Ronald Koeman (if he stays) will have a few more options to choose from when fielding the starting XI next season. Here are some of them.

Option 1

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen - Mingueza, Araujo, Lenglet - Dest, De Jong, Pedri, Alba - Messi, Aguero, Griezmann.

With Aguero in the squad, the coach could go for a more attacking option than he's used in the last games of the season — the 3-4-3. Sergio would be the player constantly penetrating the penalty box. Messi and Griezmann would be responsible for creating chances and thus placed behind him.

Option 2

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen - Dest, Mingueza, Araujo, Alba - Busquets, De Jong, Pedri - Messi, Aguero, Ansu Fati.

Another option is to go back to the 4-3-3 since Joan Laporta has reportedly demanded Koeman to play more attacking football next term. With Ansu Fati potentially back for next season, he could occupy the left wing, Messi could be placed on the right while Aguero would take the spot that used to belong to Luis Suarez.

Option 3

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen - Mingueza, Araujo, Lenglet - Dembele, De Jong, Busquets, Pedri, Alba - Messi, Aguero.

If the coach decides to keep the 3-5-2, the 32-year-old could prove to be a valuable addition too. Paired with his friend Leo, Aguero would start upfront as he's bound to provide more danger than Griezmann who typically prefers to drop deeper.
