"I hope to see a more attack-minded Barca next season. I want a winning mindset that takes care of the details. We have to press better and be more intense," Joan Laporta has told the media after announcing

William McCarthy, Busquets is really the most challenging part of the replacement. He, alongside Xavi and Iniesta, is the generational talent that La Masia produced. We can't hope to find someone that slow and weak but had unparalleled intelligence and spatial awareness in the field. 

Kante is fantastic, but he is not a playmaker like Busi. Kante plays more like how Casemiro maximizes his potential as a defensive midfielder, but Kante and Casemiro are not playmakers. They fill a different role from midfielders like Busquets, Xavi, Pirlo, Kroos, and Veratti.

So, in short, we don't need someone like Kante. We already have FdJ and later Wijnaldum that can become our holding midfielder. We need someone who can replace Busquets with young vigor to press, creativity, intelligence, and technique. We don't need someone that always won one on one. We need someone to control the game.

William McCarthy, Then for that, we already have FdJ. FdJ's most significant aspect, in my honest opinion, is not his playmaking ability. Sure he can do it, but not in the way that Busi or Messi did. In fact, he is kind of like Bastian Schweinsteiger and Kimmich. He is better as a defensive midfielder workhorse that helps the defense.

Out of the three, you said only Riqui can actually create a chance. 

You said that we need to stop from bleeding counterattacking raid, so we need to apply back our 6 seconds rule and geggenpressing once again. The problem is not that we don't have a great defensive midfielder or great center-back. The problem is that we don't press right. 

Griezmann, Dembele, Braithwaite, Trincao, FdJ, and Pedri are not used to try to gain the ball as quickly as possible because most of them come from a team that relies on the superb defensive (Atletico and Dortmund) or has a generational center back (De Ligt). So they are not used to the fact that they need to press from the moment someone gets the ball instead of just blocking there. Hence only Messi, Busquets, Ilaix, and if Puig plays, try to get the ball from the opposition instead of just staying back. 

You said that football has changed, and we need to change to a more defensive approach. But, if anything, this still works. Heck, look at Man City, Bayern, PSG, and Liverpool. They applied these tactics to a great degree and once ruled their respective leagues and Europe.

If  Laporta insists on playing 4-3-3  with Pique or Garcia at the back and Busquets in the middle and Messi Depay and  Aguero or Griezmann  up front  then you'll  see  what I'm saying is spot on .

We'll get mullered and Koeman will be down the road before  Christmas .
We'll  talk again .

William McCarthy, Then Messi, Depay, Aguero/Griezmann, Wijnaldum, and FdJ need to perform high-press. Until now, we never did a high-press that become our specialty. If we did it right, of course, we could stop a specific attack from happening. I mean, we already see it, though, during Barcelona under Pep.

The tremendous defensive midfielder that can hold the bridge and overly strong defender is our option when we want to Park the Bus and employ counterattack tactics. 

I'm sure that we already see it that's not Barcelona's style of play.

We need to regain that style of play that lost with Setien once again, because if not we will never be able to use La Masia to its potential, considering they are never taught how to defend but to take the ball, pass the ball, and score the goal instead of defending like crazy.

William McCarthy, Well, what can I say. I'm a big fan of technical players from start. To me people like Kante while fun to watch is never as elegant and beautiful as when players like Verratti, Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo, Mousa Dembele, Kroos, Busquets, Modric, and Messi played.

Laporta  can talk about attacking but  with  Garcia at the back  and Busquets  our so called DM  we'll get  mullered  on the break .

Spend the money on  Pacey  CDs  and  someone like Ngolo Kante in midfield  to allow us to attack

The attack and defense looks changed but the same midfield then I don't see the results coming next season.
