PSG fans often booed Lionel Messi, particularly in the months that followed the World Cup final in Qatar. Here's how Messi explained their disgusting behaviour.
“It's understandable. I was in the team we won the final against [France], it was our fault that they had not been world champions again,” Messi said.
PSG, as a club, did not recognize Messi for his World Cup win besides a guard of honour on the training pitch. Messi reflected on this in his interview.
“I was the only player from our Argentina team who did not have recognition as a world champion from his club [PSG],” Leo said.
Other clubs held standing ovations at their stadiums for Argentina players who won the World Cup. In Leo's case, only a few players clapped for him during training. No member of the club's hierarchy was there to congratulate the legend.
However, Messi got more than enough recognition back in Argentina and across the globe as accolades poured in for the legendary player.
