"With all due respect, we are ‘just’ Belgium," Kevin de Bruyne told HLN after his national team lost to Italy in the Nations League third-place playoff.
"It’s a new generation, we were missing Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard today, so we have to be realistic about the team we have.
"Italy, France and Spain have 22 top players to choose from and we do not."
This is quite a statement from a player who represents the country on top of FIFA ranking and can count on players from Real Madrid, Man City, Chelsea and other top clubs.
That said, his disappointment is easy to understand. Belgium's 'golden generation' failed to use yet another opportunity to win a trophy as they lost in the Nations League semifinal to France.
