Liverpool said to offer 3-year deal to Dries Mertens

Liverpool are now linked with Napoli attacker Dries Mertens and have even offered him a deal if a report in Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb is to be believed.

The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, AS Roma and Manchester United are reportedly all interested in the Belgian.

As per the report, Liverpool are offering the Belgian a three-year contract to secure his services ahead of any other potential suitor.

Mertens has scored 121 goals in 309 outings for Napoli, including 12 in 29 games this term. However, it's really unlikely Liverpool will go for the veteran attacker when Jurgen Klopp is trying his best to build a team which will dominate the league and Europe for years.

In case you forget, Mertens once ridiculed the famous This Is Anfield sign.

Last season, Napoli and Liverpool locked horns in the UCL group stage. Prior to the Anfield trip, the Belgian told a story of how he faced Liverpool playing for Utrecht in 2010.

"My strongest memory is that they have a sign saying 'This is Anfield' and everyone was talking about it, so I was thinking it's very big, you know," Mertens told The Times.

"I came through the tunnel and I asked, 'Where is the thing?' and they said you missed it and I hadn't noticed it. So in the second half, I'm looking at this small thing and asking, 'Is this so special?''"

Mertens got punished for his arrogance. Napoli were beaten 1-0 at Anfield and dropped to the Europa League while Liverpool went all the way to the Champions League final and European glory.
