Why Arsenal were denied late penalty for Saka v Neuer clash - explained

Arsenal's thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final was marred with some late drama.

In the final few minutes, Bukayo Saka was played through on goal and got into a promising area in the box.

However, before he could take a shot, the winger went down in agony after a clash of legs with Manuel Neuer.

The Englishman was furious not to get a penalty, with neither the referee nor VAR seeing enough to give one.

The reason why the Gunners did not get a penalty was because it was not a clear and obvious error from the German goalkeeper.

When Neuer came off his goal, his leg was in a fixed position. Saka ended up finding it before the clash of legs happened, and not a case of Manuel forcibly impeding him.

As a result, the penalty wasn't given but the Gunners still have lots to play for in the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week.
