Mikel Arteta urges fans to back Arsenal after UCL knockout: 'I’m really proud of the players'

In his post-match interview, quoted by Football London, Mikel Arteta said: "Very sad and disappointed with the final result.

"It was a tie of very small margins. In the first leg we conceded two poor goals.

"Today we came here and I’m really proud of the players, especially in the first half.

"It was a game where you can see an error or individual brilliance would make the difference. We didn’t defend our box well enough."

The Arsenal boss then urged fans to get behind the players, adding: "We have to be close to the players.

"What they [fans] need to do is stand right next to them, give them our support and our love.

"We have to pick it up because we have a big, big game on Saturday [against Wolverhampton Wanderers].

"We really want it and we have to show that we’re capable of turning it around."

Bayern Munich simply needed one goal to advance to the Champions League semi-final; Arsenal could only lament their missed chances.

The Gunners now have to focus on winning the Premier League as that is their last hope of ending 2023/24 with silverware.
