Firmino or Nunez? Select Liverpool XI for Man City game from 2 options

The season starts tomorrow for Liverpool - unless you consider the Community Shield as nothing more than a glorified friendly, that is.

Alisson and Diogo Jota will miss the game due to injuries, as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kostas Tsimikas.

Liverpool have scheduled a friendly game against Strasbourg for Sunday, with most of the Reds' fringe players set to feature there. It means that we are most likely going to see the strongest team at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

So, who should start for Liverpool against Man City?

Option 1

Most of the regular starters played just 30 minutes in the Salzburg game a few days ago, so that should give us a pretty strong idea as to who is due to start on Saturday.

That includes Roberto Firmino who replaced Darwin Nunez after 60 minutes. Knowing Jurgen Klopp, he's most likely to go with what he knows for a clash against Man City, so Firmino is a logical choice.

Option 2

You'd be forgiven, though, for giving in to the excitement generated around Nunez's signing. Starting him against City would be a massive statement of trust from Klopp, too, and that's probably something the 23-year-old needs.

Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konate continues his fight with Joel Matip for a second centre-back place. Finally, Naby Keita played only 45 minutes on Wednesday, probably with a view to the City game - but Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson featured for only half an hour, too.
