Reflecting on the weekend's round of fixture, Michael Owen wrote on Twitter: "Newcastle vs Arsenal game was a brilliant watch. Two top teams going at it.
"The only (in his words) 'embarrassing' and 'disgraceful' thing about it was Mikel Artet's behaviour. A common occurrence that damages the game more than any incorrect decision.
"For his club to now release a statement moaning about the standard of officiating is poor and sadly for a team of Arsenals standing, totally classless."
Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the 2023/24 campaign at the weekend, losing 1–0 against Newcastle United away from home.
Arteta slammed referee Stuart Attwell and VAR after the controversial loss with the club coming in to support the manager with an official statement.
